Salvador Claret Automobile Collection

Colección de Automóviles Salvador Claret
Salvador Claret

Classic cars, family saloons, sports cars, celebrities’ cars... These all fill the rooms of the exhibition, which is part of the network of the National Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia. The automobiles are all left parked inside a dimly-lit single-floor building – a large vehicle depot preserving a heritage of great historical value. When you get to the building, you go in by way of a shop offering various objects featuring automobile designs. And in the collection itself you will find over 300 items, relating to aviation, motorcycles, velocipedes and other machines, but with one undisputable star: the automobile. Even though the first room is the one nearest the entrance if you keep on the way you came, we suggest you start your visit by going to the only room with theme-based content: the room devoted to cars from Spanish makers. That room, which is called “Museu de l’Automòbil i la Motorització Espanyola” (Museum of the Automobile and Spanish Motorization), brings together all the “made in Spain” exhibits in the collection. The four large rooms along the visiting route do not follow an established chronological order: getting the exhibits to fit well in the area available was the overriding consideration in arranging the layout. There is also a little room devoted to motorcycles – nearly a hundred of them, mostly of Spanish manufacture. All the vehicles, which are kept lined up and well polished, are in good condition and work perfectly. -Costa Brava Pirineu de Girona
