HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - On 15 May two new exhibitions have been opened at the Huntsville Museum of Art:

Future Retro: Drawings from the Great Age of American Automobiles
May 15 – July 24, 2011
Huth, Boeing, Salmon, Haws and Chan Galleries

Over 100 dynamic works showcase American automotive design during the decades following World War II, a landmark period in car styling. Works range from preliminary sketches to fully rendered drawings, providing a rare glimpse into the creative process. Dating from an era when beauty and ingenuity were important factors in car sales, there are ample references to airplanes, rockets, and other emerging technologies that influenced postwar automotive design.

Fast, Loose and Out of Control: Bobby Allison and The Alabama Gang
May 15 – July 24, 2011
Haws Gallery

This special exhibition is organized by HMA in celebration of racing legend Bobby Allison’s upcoming induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The exhibit will include rare and little-seen memorabilia loaned by Allison and other members of “The Alabama Gang,” the nickname for the NASCAR drivers who set up shop and operated out of Hueytown, AL beginning in the late 1950s.
