European Parliament Recognises Classic Vehicles As Part of European Cultural Heritage
Earlier this week the European Parliament approved the new End-of-Life Vehicle Regulations. The 280-page document has one relevant paragraph to classic car owners. According to paragraph 14: "In order to preserve Europe’s cultural heritage, vehicles of historical interest should be excluded from the scope of this Regulation and should not be subject to the obligations related to transfer of ownership or export, or to end-of-life requirements. Similarly, vehicles which are recognised by a Member State as having special cultural interest should be excluded from the scope of this Regulation. This can cover for instance vehicles in the possession of collectors or museums, custom-built vehicles or racing vehicles, provided that the competent authorities recognise their relevant special cultural interest".

In 1955, Helen constructed a building on the grounds to house the carriages and could later be developed into a museum. The former carriage house now serves as education classrooms and office spaces. Attached to it is The Car and Carriage Museum, which displays dozens of vehicles for visitors to view for free Tuesday through Sunday.
