Indy

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum celebrates and preserves the history behind the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indianapolis 500.

Following an US$60 million renovation project the museum reopened on 2 April. From what was basically a single collection of cars, not all of them related to the Indy 500, the museum now consists of seven permanent and three rotating galleries, the Starting Line Experience immersive video space to showcase the lead-up to the start of the 500, state-of-the art racing simulators and a pitstop challenge for guests to learn the tools and equipment of the racing trade.

The museum added 40,000 square feet of display space, including a ‘Gasoline Alley’ rendition that features replica garage stalls from different decades alongside period accurate cars.

There is a special Penske Gallery where all 20 of Team Penske’s Baby Borg trophies and their respective driver helmets are arranged to show off Roger Penske’s unmatched success at Indianapolis as a team owner.
